Thank You for the World so Sweet...

"Now I lay me down to sleep..."

Many of us learned to pray as children, but sadly, some of us never grasped that beyond the memorized meal blessings and bedtime prayers, we've been gifted by God with the opportunity to enter into His presence in conversation.

This mystery transcends human reasoning. It affords those of us who by faith in Jesus Christ as Lord will seize it, the chance to experience intimacy with the mountain moving, miracle working giver of hope.

On this National Day of Prayer, may God remind us that prayer is more than ritual conscience cleansing or the recitation of petitions and pleas. It is the unparalleled opportunity to converse with the creator of the universe-- who in spite of all that seems logical-- is mindful of us. And not just mindful, passionately concerned.

As we pray today, scripture offers us a glimpse of how marvelous this privilege truly is:

Psalm 8:4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?

Philippians 4: 6-7 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Psalm 50:15 and call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me.”

Psalm 46:10 "Be still, and know that I am God.."

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Be joyful always; 17pray continually; 18give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

1 Timothy 2:1-2 I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— 2for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.

Hebrews 4:16 Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

James 1:5-6 If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. 6But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.

May our prayers succeed in compelling us to confess our sins, surrender our doubts, release our fears, acknowledge His sovereignty and crown Him King!
